Physics

We eliminate the guesswork. With veteran tutors who have been through PHYS 161, PHYS 260, and upper level courses, as well as having already tutored these classes at UMD, we won't be experimenting on you. We support Physics for Biologists (131 and 132) and Physics for Life Sciences as well.

At College Park Tutors, we carefully vet all our tutors. Unlike other tutoring services, we never put you into groups - that's what office hours are for. With tutors specializing in the most common required courses at University of Maryland, including Math 120, Math 140, Math 141, Physics 161, Physics 260, and Math 246, we've got you covered. We hope that you will choose to work with us, and we look forward to serving the College Park community in the years to come.

How it works. Setting up your first session.

2

Wait for a response.

We have specific tutors who specialize in calculus, physics, differential equations, and statistics. A tutor who best fits your course and schedule will contact you within 24 hours or less (usually a lot less) to set up an appointment.

3

Have your first session!

For in-person sessions, most students and tutors find it convenient to meet on campus, in the EPSL or McKeldin Library. For online tutoring, we typically use Zoom. That being said, we'll do our best to accommodate your needs and meet at other locations or use alternative platforms and technologies to suit your needs!

If you have any questions about the process, please contact us.
After your first session, you can schedule additional sessions directly with your tutor.

Our tutors. The best.

Our tutors are college upperclassmen and graduates with prior experience in tutoring calculus, precalculus, statistics, differential equations, linear algebra, and other common classes at University of Maryland (UMD). They know the material and can walk you through it in clear and intelligible language.

Looking for Clark School of Engineering tutoring? We engineer success.

  • Many students are surprised that an engineering degree is almost as much math as a math degree. At College Park Tutors, we tutor the major prerequisite math courses common to all engineering programs at Maryland. In fact, most of our tutors are current engineering students or engineering graduates!
  • Engineering Math We tutor the introductory math series MATH140, MATH141, and MATH241, as well as more specialized courses like linear algebra (MATH240) and differential equations (MATH246).
  • Physics All engineering students at University of Maryland are required to take PHYS161 and PHYS260. Some may also be required to take PHYS270. We can help with all of these classes!
  • Statistics Most engineering programs have their own version of a probability/stats course - ENEE324, ENME392, ENCE302, CHBE410, BIOE371, and BIOE372 are the big ones. Let us help you tackle the basic concepts underlying each of these classes.

Looking for more resources? Resources for common UMD courses

  • For the busiest students, tutoring is one of the most efficient ways to master the material and can fill in the gaps of missed classes and concepts when needed. Tutoring is even more effective when combined with other resources and strategies for success:
  • Our blog, with common problems in calculus, differential equations, and other UMD courses. Our blog explains and unpacks the most difficult problems from calculus, differential equations, and statistics. All of the problems are derived from real exams at UMD.
  • UMD's Math Success Center Math Success is open Sunday-Thursday from 6:00-9:00pm at Oakland Hall. On Mondays and Wednesdays, they offer Collaborative Study Groups for Math 140 and Math 141.
  • Instructor/TA office hours The key to getting the most out of office hours, is to start attending them early in the semester to beat the rush. If you lucked out and got a good instructor or TA, this is basically free tutoring!
  • Take the right class If you're not sure which math class to take, consider taking UMD's math placement test. If you're just trying to fulfill a gen ed requirement, make sure and take the general version of your class, not the version for majors.
  • Get tips for success from your tutor. They've been through it before and they know what individual professors are looking for. Sign up here, and we'll set you up with a one-on-one tutor focused specifically on your needs.
  • College is a huge investment! An expert tutor will help you make the most out of your time and ensure success.
